This review is more of a guide for cablecutters, which we have found fire TV a great way to accomplish this. There’s plenty of reviews explaining how to use the fire, so this is more for people like us who don’t want to pay full cable prices but are ok with paying for access to apps to still watch all our cable shows, at a significant savings to cable, and are used to using a dvr (we used tivo) and don’t want to watch commercials. We’ve had this box for a couple weeks now, and while it has taken some getting used to, since you have to access your shows through individual apps instead of them all being on one big list, we have found it worthwhile to make the switch.

The FireTV is an amazingly handy device in a very small package that doesn’t take up a lot of space in your entertainment center! I love this device, primarily because it is simple to use and to navigate – made simple as pie by the voice-enabled search feature on the (included) remote. You can say “Homeland” and the FireTv will locate the program, and you simply press the large button just below the microphone to bring up the show (on Showtime). From there you can select different seasons and episodes, add programs to your play list, and enable other features like closed captioning. Audio and video outputs are now done solely through the HDMI port on the back of the device, which makes connecting to your entertainment center simple and easy (HDMI cable NOT included, but available from Amazon Basics at a low cost). The prior model did not support UHD (4000 lines) while this model now does. Of all the technology items I have purchased, I regard the Amazon FireTV as the best investment ever! Did I mention you can purchase subscriptions to HBO, Showtime, and other former cable-only services right from Amazon? How great is that? And when you do so, Amazon connects those services to your FireTV for you, so you don’t have to become a whiz at remembering even more logons and passwords! Finally, when your FireTV box arrives from Amazon – it is already activated and registered to your Amazon account! Must buy!

Amazon Fire is a excellent product. Easy to operate and setup.Has better speed , response and overall superior to the Roku 4. Picture is excellent. All of that being said,it has some audio sync issues. Lip sync is off at times, and sometimes it’s ok. Can be frustrating, for sure. Lip sync issues can be very good to really bad depending the particular app that is being used.Hulu ,for example is horrible, But Sony Vue can be fine.Hopefully there will be a firmware update that will address this issue.

Better than the last version, which was really good, and well worth the time and money.

I had the earlier version of the box, and had exploited its many uses; my wife was even watching her team – “Go Giants” – on MLB there nearly daily. Usually this was just fine, and far better than I expected. But there were times when you just had to unplug it and plug it back in to get it working right, and there were instances when it did the “freeze and think about it awhile” before returning to the movie. I assumed this was about memory more than anything else. This was well worth the money I paid, and I would give it 4-stars.

Amazing product from Amazon Highly recommend – would NOT buy again

I am totally pleased with our decision to purchase 2 Amazon Fire TV for our two wide screen TVs. We purchased at $99.99 only to find out a couple days later they were discounted $15 each which Amazon has now refunded us after we called. I wish that the remotes were back-lit so we can see the buttons at night. I suppose we will know them after using the devices after a short time without a light. I wish there was a way to restrict the movies displayed to select to FREE or with a dollar limit to rent or buy. This would save us a lot of time in searching that we can watch without a charge (rent of buy on prime). I agree with others that the instruction book should come with the product and not have to be purchased separately. We now get NetFlix in our bedroom with Amazon Fire TV that we could not get before without another router and DVD player. Also, this Amazon Fire TV is much MUCH faster loading and playing movies than our old way of getting NetFlix – No more buffering for us…

Give it a try and you wont be disapointed!
